Summary
The Great Fire of September 21, 1776 destroyed roughly the area from Whitehall Slip to St. Paul’s Chapel, and from Broadway to the Hudson River waterfront. Trinity Church was destroyed. The burn zone remained largely unrepaired during the seven-year British occupation.
